The story of Rama, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, was translated from Sanskrit to Persian by order of the emperor Akbar. Traditionally attributed to the sage Valmiki, the text chronicles a great war caused by the abduction of Rama’s wife Sita by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka.
