Alexandre-François Desportes
Painter
(Champigneulles, France, 1661 - 1743, Paris, France)
ULAN note: Known for his paintings of dogs, game, and emblems of the chase. Although he continued the lavish Flemish tradition, he was among the first 18th-century artists to paint landscape studies from nature, and for this reason he was considered eccentric. John III of Poland and Louis XIV of France were patrons.
